  • None

Bug Fixes

  • G100 setting configuration in 3ph units : was only copied to CT2 and CT3 when the CT type was changed. This wasn’t the case when the actual setting was changed.
  • G100 protection only monitors active phases (so if a three phase zappi is only charging an EV using phase 1, low current measurements on phases 2 or 3 are ignored) (3.037)
  • Linked devices symbols ‘M’ and ‘~’ wasn’t displayed properly
  • Fixed priorities not updating on slave devices
  • Grid Limit in Wired Mode : Fixed issue with grid current not resetting if power is being exported once limit is active
  • Fixed issue where other devices may be allotted power when zappi boosting even though importing from grid
  • Fixed issue with LED indicator colours resetting to zero/changing in upgrade from 2.176 to 3.033

Improvements

  • Updated Swedish and German translations
  • Improvement to speed of load control updates
  • Reset of radio module on lost transmit – fixes issue with zappi 2 comms lost (red zappi light on hub)

zappi 2 Firmware Version 3.033 (26/07/2020)

26/07/2020 – Previous version 2.176

The zappi 2 Firmware Version 3.033 release includes a number of significant changes and enhancements. V3 firmware for zappi 1 and eddi will be released in the coming weeks once Beta testing is complete.

zappi 2 Firmware Version 3.033

IMPORTANT – This is a critical update

The zappi 2 – Firmware Version 3.033 has been released first due a critical update that we have been forced to include due to a safety concern identified with the new (2020) Kia e-Niro and Hyundai Kona which have an onboard three phase charger – see below for details

Failure to update your firmware may lead to damage to your 3-phase zappi if used with one of these vehicles.

Before upgrading the zappi please ensure that you have also updated the firmware on your hub.
Instructions on how to update the firmware on your zappi and other myenergi devices can be found -> here <-

New Features

STOP Mode

This zappi 2 – Firmware Version 3.033 includes an update for stop mode. Now, in Stop Mode, the zappi will not charge the EV. The boost modes are also disabled.

Zappi continues to measure power and communicate with other devices in the network. This mode can also be set as the default mode on reboot / start-up. Support of STOP in the app will be provided in the next release of the app.

Single phase zappi – External CT3 now fully supported

The third external CT connection on the single phase zappi can now be used to measure any external circuit (exactly the same as external CT1 and CT2)

Improved functionality with 3rd party diverters

Zappi will now stop taking priority over 3rdparty diverter if there is import for too long, e.g. when the diverter is boosting. Valid for CTs set to “Storage Only”.

Allow remote unlock of the zappi

This feature has been included to allow the zappi to be unlocked via the the app. This feature will be fully supported in the next release of the app scheduled by 08/08/2020

“Demand Side Response”

With the zappi 2 Firmware Version 3.033, Demand Side Response (DSR) is now fully supported, allowing zappi owners to sign up to third party aggregators.

They can then help support the grid and transmission network by adjusting the zappi charge rate (eg the “FRED Trial” where myenergi are working with a number of other companies to develop this solution and demonstrate its value https://evergreensmartpower.co.uk/what-we-do/domestic-dsr-fred-trial/)

zappi 2 Firmware Version 3.033 Improvements

  • 3-phase Zappi will attempt to detect if a Kia e-Niro or Hyundai Kona is being charged and prevent switching from single phase to three phase charging unless the EV is unplugged first.
  • Automatic charge session permission after power-cut
  • On a single phase zappi, the external CT3 input can now be used
  • “G100” feature (which detects if a hardwired CT has become disconnected) now only operates if the current being supplied to the zappi is more that 2A – this prevents the G100 limit operating if the house load is perfectly balanced and there is no power being drawn from the grid.
  • “G100” is displayed along with “Installation Limit!” on main screen when this limit occurs.
  • Phase and Grid Current are displayed along with “Installation Limit!” when zappi stops charging due to Grid Limit setting. This will help user understand why the charge has stopped, particularly in a three phase zappi.
  • Improved Grid Limit to prevent occasional power oscillations observed in some circumstances
  • Enhanced fault reporting on main screen for faults #24 Output Fault! and #28 Welded Contactor
  • RGB LED Colour rate changed from 500ms to 5s. Avoids colour changes when house load is small.
  • Power Factor is now displayed in the CT Config menu (similar to harvi CT details screen), this is useful in dealing with installation issues on 3-phase supplies.
  • Swedish translation added.
  • Improvement to way power allocation to batteries / power diverters is handled
  • “Update from Cloud” is automatically set when a Hub is added to the list of paired devices
  • Readings page 7 : displays grid spare current and min/max charging power

zappi 2 Firmware Version 3.033 Bug Fixes

  • “G100” text as not displayed correctly in CT Config menu. (i.e. when zappi detects that the CT measuring the grid supply may be disconnected)
  • Grid CT was only working on CT1 on single phase units
  • “Charge Complete” was wrongly displayed instead of “Charge Delayed” when an EV would stop Battery PreHeating.
  • Incorrect reporting of Green% in Charge Logs
  • Calculation of Green Energy % on main screen updated to match the calculation in the charge logs
  • Fix for voltage information not being sent to server
  • eSense and Boost Timers were starting a charge despite the session not being allowed

Safety Concern – Kia e-Niro and Hyundai Kona (2020 model with three phase onboard charger)

Following the release of the 2020 models of the Kia e-Niro and Hyundai Kona (with three phase onboard charger), we have identified an issue with this EV only when switching between single phase (i.e. ECO/ECO+) and three phase charging (i.e. FAST / BOOST).

The e-Niro and Kona fail to respond correctly when the output of the zappi changes, resulting in a damage to the zappi and the possibility of the supply MCBs tripping or fuses blowing.

To ensure that this does not happen, zappi will now attempt to detect if an e-Niro or Kona is being charged and will not allow the switch between single phase and three phase operation unless the car is unplugged first.

Please see the page for more details:

Unfortunately, the way that zappi detects that one of these vehicles is connected means that it may also block the switch from 1-phase to 3-phase charging on vehicles that are able to change charging mode completely safely.

We are very sorry if this affects you but are left little choice given the potential safety issues introduced by these new Kia and Hyundai vehicles.

zappi 2 – Firmware Version 2.176 (06/05/2020)

06/05/2020 – Previous version 2.171

Instructions on how to update the zappi 2 – Firmware Version 2.176 and other myenergi devices can be found -> here <-

zappi 2 – Firmware Version 2.176 Improvements / Changes

The zappi 2 – Firmware Version 2.176 release includes the following improvements:

  • Stability when grid limit is set to a low value (<20A)
  • Handling of grid limit on a three phase zappi when EV is not charging on all three phases
  • Added characters ‘ä’, ‘ü’, ‘ö’
  • Shortened German for ‘to unlock cable’ & ‘Start/Stop’ so it fits on screen

In addition the maximum grid limit when using a harvi for the grid CT’s has been reduced to 65A. Hardwired CT’s can still be set to have a grid limit up to 100A.

Bug fixes

  • Stopping a charge session because of an Installation limit didn’t work in:
    • network mode or;
    • wired mode in 3ph Zappi with a non-3ph capable EV
  • “Charge Complete” was wrongly displayed instead of “Charge Delayed” when an EV would stop battery pre-heating/pre-conditioning

Known Issues

The following known issues remain to be fixed:

  • Tesla Model 3 – does not correctly work in ECO+. This will require a firmware update from Tesla

zappi 2 – Firmware Version 2.171 (31/03/2020)

31/03/2020 – Previous version 2.161

The zappi 2 – Firmware Version 2.171 release includes the following:

  • a number enhancements including allowing the LED colours and brightness to be adjusted and adjusting the behaviour of the backlight on the LCD display so it only comes when there is a user interaction at the zappi itself
  • a change to the tolerances on the “control pilot” (CP) measurement to cope with the unusual behaviour of the Audi e-tron.
  • additional support for 3 phase systems, allowing the connection of a single phase zappi in a 3-phase 3-wire supply, and to allow the ECO+ mode to be used on a three-phase zappi with all three phases energised.
  • changes to the EV wake up sequence following testing of zappi with the MG ZS as well as some minor bug fixes.

Instructions on how to update zappi 2 – Firmware Version 2.171 and other myenergi devices can be found -> here <-

zappi 2 – Firmware Version 2.171

Improvements

LED Indicator

It is now possible to adjust the brightness of the LED on the front of the zappi , from 100% (default and current) down to 0% (OFF all the time) and to adjust the colour of LED in the different states.

The TEST… menu allows the colour of the LED to be tested to find the correct RGB values to input in the Colours… menu

zappi 2 - Firmware Version 2.171 updates

ECO/ECO+ 3-Phase Support

3-phase charging now supported in ECO and ECO+ modes (tracking surplus). This means that the zappi can now use the full output of PV arrays and other renewable generation with a power output greater than 7kW.

At the moment dynamic switching between single-phase and 3-phase charging in ECO/ECO+ is not yet supported so it necessary to manually select the desired mode on the Charge Settings… menu

3-phase 3-wire support

A single phase Zappi will now work on a three 3-phase 3-wire system (220V Line to Line which is a number of countries including in Norway and Belgium)

Zappi 2 installed on a three-phase, 230V wye connected supply with IT earthing (Single-phase zappi installed on a three-phase system)

If used on a -phase, 3-wire system the new “Phase Return” setting in the “Supply Grid” menu needs to be set to match the phase of the cable wired into the “N” terminal of the Zappi  (wiring diagram to be added)

In a 3-phase 4-wire system (3-phase + neutral) then the “Phase Return” menu should be set to Neutral (the default setting)

The menus have also been improved so that the “Supply Grid” menu is now split between “Devices” and “Network”.  “Network” is only accessible by a Master Device and contains settings shared with all devices within the network

Audi e-tron

The tolerances on the Control Pilot (CP) signal have been increased to allow zappi to work with the unusual CP behaviour of the Audi e-tron

MG ZS

The EV wake up sequence has been modified for the MG ZS which was not responding to the zappi at the start of a timed boost when in ECO+ if the car had been left locked for some time.

LCD Backlight

The LCD backlight only comes on when a button is pressed or when the cable is plugged in / unplugged.   Previously the light had switched on whenever a charge started or stopped, or a new entry was recorded in the event logs.

Bug Fixes

Version 2.163

  • “Charging” was sometimes displayed instead of “EV disconnected”
  • Group limit flag was not reset which meant that the “house icon” may have been displayed continuously

Version 2.168

  • Eventlogs : “Custom” was not checking the months properly. Ex : Events in March could have been added for a February search
  • Changes to communications with the RCD protection board (avoids “Comms Problem” error messages)
  • Power readings could fluctuate by 100W when no CT connected or no load on CT
  • Increased memory allocated to wireless communications – 6 devices now correctly handled on one wireless channel
  • Event/Charge Logs : Last 7 days search (Week) wasn’t taken the leap year into account
  • Eventlogs : “Custom” search could not have been working if more than 7 different days of data was present
  • RGB LED Brightness 0% was doing the same thing as 1%

Version 2.170

  • Timed boost not working correctly if boost period runs past midnight and the timer is not set to operate every day
  • Smart boost – PIN Lock active even if the PIN Lock is disabled

Further changes

Changes being made to the servers this week will resolve the following issues:

  • 3 phase zappi, built in CT’s not interpreted correctly in the app, resulting in a third of the power being reported

Known Issues

The following known issues remain to be fixed:

  • Tesla Model 3 – does not correctly work in ECO+. This will require a firmware update from Tesla

zappi 2 – Firmware Version 2.161 (01/02/2020)

01/02/2020 – Previous version 2.156

The zappi 2 – Firmware Version 2.161 release includes a number of bug fixes and minor enhancements, as well as an improvement in the way that the Control Pilot signal is sampled to eliminate spurious Pilot Error! trips.

Instructions on how to update the firmware on your zappi and other myenergi devices can be found -> here <-

zappi 2 – Firmware Version 2.161

zappi 2 - Firmware Version 2.161Improvements

  • Updated Translations:
      • Dutch, French
      • “Coms” is now spelt “Comms”
  • Pilot Debug: Readings page 5. Now records real time readings
  • ECO+ mode: start/stop delay minimum value changed from 5 to 10s to prevent cycling
  • ECO+ mode: start/stop counter cannot start before the RCD board has finished to check for welded contacts. Prevent cycling at start of charge
  • Control Pilot readings: sampling logic improved to eliminate spurious Pilot Error! Trip

Bug Fixes

  • Inconsistency between Zappi true status and main screen display
  • PIN Lock : Zappi could lock itself from a Control Pilot x1 to x2 transition (B1 to B2 or C1 to C2). This fixes the problem in ECO+ where the PIN had to be re-entered every time the zappi tried to restart charging
  • Default Charge Mode : always started in ‘FAST’ on reboot (since V2.152)
  • Control loop caused PWM to be turned OFF while “RCD Checking…” leading to “Pilot Errors” and potential “RCD Tripped!”
  • Improved the way that surplus generation is shared between myenergi devices in ECO/ECO+ modes when Boosting
  • Corrected interaction between Smart Boost and Timed Boost – Timed Boost continued past end of the timed boost period if Smart Boost was also set.

Known Issues

The following known issues remain to be fixed:

  • 3 phase zappi, built in CT’s not interpreted correctly in the app, resulting in a third of the power being reported
  • Tesla Model 3 – does not correctly work in ECO+. This will required a firmware update from Tesla

zappi 2 – Firmware Version 2.156 (14/01/2020)

14/01/2020 – Previous Version 2.142

zappi 2 – Firmware Version 2.156 – (Compatibility Release)

The zappi 2 – Firmware Version 2.156 release deals with a number of incompatibilities between different EV’s, particularly the Tesla and e-Golf.  Testing of this firmware released with both vehicles has confirmed that they will work in Fast, ECO and ECO+, although there are still issues with the Tesla waking up in ECO+ (which can only be resolved by a Tesla firmware update) and

For some vehicles we have also found that the EV will sometimes fail to wake up from ECO+ if the sun starts shining or if a boost is activated, unless there was a short charge within a few minutes of plugging the car in.  To deal with this situation we have added a new option under the “ECO+ Settings” menu “Plug-In Charge”.   This will force a short charge when the EV is first plugged in.

Instructions on how to update the firmware on your zappi and other myenergi devices can be found -> here <-

zappi 2 – Firmware Version 2.156 New Features

  • “Plug-In Charge” in Eco+ mode. Allows Zappi to force a charge session the first time the EV is plugged in. Setting in the “ECO+ Settings” menu.

Improvement

  • PWM signal at start of charge to EV adjusted to improve compatibility with some EV’s

Bug Fixes

  • Charge logs no longer record double energy value if main charge and pre-conditioning charge take place before cable is unplugged (only applies to charge sessions carried out after the new firmware is installed – will not correct historical readings)
